About HERA


HERA's offices in Manukau City

HERA was established in 1979 as a non-profit research organisation dedicated to the needs of the metals-based industries in New Zealand.

HERA exists as a resource support centre to member companies to develop their technical competence and so improve industry capability and competitiveness. Improving technical competence includes improving staff skills of all kinds, improving technical standards of work and better use and adaptation of technology.

HERA's area of activity is best described as metals engineering and the business of adding value to raw metal material. As history of the 25 years of HERA was presented to members at the 2nd Metals Industry Conference in Christchurch in 2004.

HERA's Mission Statement 

"To grow the New Zealand Metals Engineering Industry by accelerating innovation and by strengthening its combined opportunities through the provision of research, education, marketing, information, and product development.

HERA's Vision Statement 

To advance HERA to be the leading catalyst for innovation and growth of New Zealand’s metals engineering sector.

ImageThere are currently 441 Ordinary Member companies, 216 Associate Members and 14 Affiliate Members. HERA has formal relations with 12 international research organisations.
