This Welding Supervisor exams consist of two papers.
- Paper A Welding Theory and Technology
3 hour ‘closed book’ exam. Start: 9:00am - Paper B Applications of Standards
2 hour ‘open book’ exam. You may also refer to a copy of AS/NZS 1554.1. Start: 1:00pm
Both papers are assessed independently of each other and have to be passed to achieve the qualification.
Detailed exam instructions will be sent to candidates once registration is confirmed.
Ensure you are prepared for your exams by selecting to do our optional refresher course.
We’ll review the important concepts you need to be proficient in, so you can feel more confident ahead of sitting your papers.
This is delivered online via Zoom, and consists of a four series webinar consisting of 2 hour sessions in the lead up to the exam. Each webinar also allows for a 30 minute questions segment.

- 20/04/21 – Webinar 2: Materials and their behaviour during welding
- 21/04/21 – Webinar 3: Construction and design
- 22/04/21 – Webinar 4: Fabrication, applications engineering
Please note:
- All webinars are set to start at 1:00pm.
- Detailed instructions will be emailed to attendees ahead of time.
- Last day to register for the Refresher course is five days prior to the exam.
- You’ll need to select the “$170 Exam preparation” box in section 3 of the exam registration form if you’d like to attend these webinars.
The exam will be held online via HERA’s online learning platform – so candidates will need access to a computer with live internet connection for the duration of the exam.
Students will be familiar with this platform from their distance learning modules they will have completed as part of the Welding Supervisor course requirements.
Candidates are asked to sit the exam in a quiet space.
Detailed instructions will be emailed to candidates alongside the registration confirmation.
