Here’s how you can be too!

Last year, we wrote about our carbon zero journey of calculating our operational carbon emissions for FY 19. We also did a podcast interview with Thinkstep-ANZ to explain the process further.

We are happy to report that we have offset against those calculated emissions, ensuring certified Zero Carbon Business Operations via certified carbon credits with Ekos.  The details of what was included in the emissions calculation are provided in a case study we prepared for the Sustainable Steel Council. In that case study, we included a link to our inventory which itemises each activity/item considered in our calculation and can be used to assist your business in taking the first steps towards going zero carbon too.

Our carbon zero partner

HERA chose Ekos as its partner as they offer certified carbon credits sourced from projects that grow and protect forests in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.

This further supports HERA’s commitments more broadly to the Living Standards Framework.

Now that we know how to measure, we intend to keep measuring and offsetting and looking for improvement opportunities. We will now go back and measure and offset our emissions in FY20 (which we did not use as our case study year as it was an anomalous 9 month year due to our change in end of financial year).

The shift to regular digital meetings will certainly have assisted us in FY21 as air travel was one of HERA’s most significant carbon contributors.

We have found the process easy and affordable and hope that the information we shared can assist you to also start measuring and offsetting your operational carbon emissions.
