The Omahu Marae - a building project Joe led in 1990 to build its dining room as Chair of the Omāhu Māori Committee. This project was completed and opened within the year and debt free! It can seat 400-500 people at capacity, and was a steel framed building with a high roof and pitch.

23 February 2022 | Ep.61 – move your mentality from the 1940’s: Part 2

In our bonus episode release today we carry on our conversation with Dr Joe Te Rito that we started in Episode 60.

Joe is the Deputy Director Māori and Kaihautū Mātauranga Māori for Ako Aotearoa – the NZ Centre for Tertiary Teaching Excellence. In this role, he promotes Māori learner success focused on providing professional learning development for educators across the whole tertiary sector.

At HERA, we have been very fortunate to collaborate with Jo on our journey to embrace Mātauranga māori, tikanga Māori and te reo Māori in the mahi we do. He is well respected, and the mātauranga he holds a real treasure, and we love that he is a part of the words we weave in our communications. It is a journey that we hope to inspire many more to take.
