Steel import levy tonnages year-to-date: August 2023

We continue to see a steady decline in our levy import tonnages, with a year on year drop of approximately 38% for August. This is a direct consequence of the decreased demand for steel. The key drivers for this are a decrease in significant construction projects, a drop in the bottom level of the market with reductions in the construction of private multi-story and low-rise buildings, merchants selling off stock and the upcoming elections.
