There have been media reports about commercial CO₂ gas supply shortage following the closure of the Todd Energy Kapuni gas plant in Taranaki for safety reasons. While those in the food production and craft beer manufacturing industries have been at the centre of the recent media there also be some implications for the welding CO₂ supply.

Welding grade CO₂ gas and gas mixtures that include CO₂ are critical for the welding fabrication industry. Some of the fabricators have experienced a significant cost increase for CO₂ gas. While using CO₂ welding gas historically has been the cheapest option, a large number of fabricators have moved or considered moving to use Argon/ CO₂ gas mixtures for GMAW.

This webinar will provide some background information on the use of welding CO₂ gas and Argon-based gas mixtures and the issues to be taken into account while considering alternative gases. It will also provide a forum for discussions.
